Cape Town

Our introduction to Africa has been great! We’ve already topped off our Vit D tanks, while minimizing sunburn. We had a mellow Thu evening walking around the waterfront, and managed to find a restaurant serving Belgian beers and tasty treats – just what the doctor ordered! On Friday we explored Cape Town city some more, checking out the Green Market, the Company’s Garden, and the Castle of Good Hope. We found some fantastic espresso, at a cute roaster/cafe (they also sell Stumptown beans, from Portland, OR, a little reminder of home!) All the while we marveled at the clouds billowing over Table Mountain, an unreal backdrop to an already gorgeous city. Walking around is a little exciting, what with cars coming from the opposite direction, and drivers very impatient about pedestrians – even in (especially in?!) marked crosswalks. After a short rest we’ll head back out in search of more adventure and grub.

You know I spent a full year working in the Castle during my time in the army as a legal officer? Remember the route up the mountain to take is Plattekloof Gorge.

Oh, and when the clouds pour over the Mountain, it means the south-Easter is blowing, which is a good thing………………………

I misspelled the town name, Kommetjie, on my email to you the other day, sorry. This is the correct way.
